Our History
John Kirby was an Irish immigrant and wealthy livestock farmer. He and his wife, Mary, willed their estate in 1939 to establish the John and Mary E. Kirby Hospital. Originally housed in one of Monticello’s elegant estates, it was the cornerstone of our community. Although the mansion that was the original hospital is now gone, the estate's park-like grounds today comprise the site of our fully accredited and licensed community hospital dedicated to serving the people of Piatt County and surrounding areas.
