The grant’s focus is on Healthy Diet & Fitness Promotion. After development and planning, Kirby Medical Center is proud to offer the Live Well Program beginning in the month of November. This 6 month wellness program is targeted for any person wanting to maintain or improve their current health status. Live Well classes will be held weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm in the medical center’s education room. Topics include healthy diet related strategies, cooking demonstrations, and exercise promotion. Weekly weigh-ins, anthropometrics, and opportunities for health-related discussion will be fostered. Classes will include PowerPoint programs of relevant topics presented by Kirby Medical Center’s registered dietitian, Sara E. Wade, as well as other health professionals such as an exercise physiologist, occupational therapist, certified diabetes educator, and fresh start diet coach. Cost to participants does not go through medical insurance and is $35 monthly. The cost also includes a comprehensive nutrition assessment with meal plan by a registered dietitian.
