Welcome to the Apple A Day Café
Wholesome, nourishing and well-balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery. Kirby Medical Center makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared according to your doctor’s orders.
We offer Room Service and you may place your meal order from 6:15 am to 6:15 pm. Breakfast is available all day and lunch/dinner is available between 11:00 am and 6:15 pm. Once you place your room service order, you can expect to have your tray delivered within 45 minutes. Occasionally you may need to delay your meal if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. You may order from the room service menu after your examination or test.
If a family member or friend would like to dine with you in your room, a guest meal tray can be delivered to your room for a small fee. Another option for guest dining is the Apple a Day Café where meals can be purchased and taken back to the patient room. Patients are asked to refrain from visiting the Café for meals or snacks. Please call Room Service for all your dining needs including after your examination or test at (217) 762-1908 or direct dial extension 1908.

Nutritional tip: In order to achieve and/or maintain a healthy BMI/weight, one must not only focus on what they choose to put in their mouth, but also ensure that they are getting adequate amounts of physical activity. “Eat less, move more”. The American Heart Association states that 150 minutes of physical activity per week promotes a healthy BMI or health weight. It is also noted that taking more than 2 days off per week show less of a benefit. Ideally, one would want to obtain 30 minutes of moderate physical activity 5 days per week.
Physical activity can be anything out of your daily routine that elevates your heart rate. Physical activity does not have to be exhausting to show benefits and should be enjoyable. A nice walk in the park would do the trick. Invite your loved ones for a family function!
As far as diet is concerned, fill half your plate with non-starchy vegetables, do not eat in front of the television, and obtain sweet cravings from fresh fruits to cut calories and eat clean.
